NASA: Another Indian steps into space: Anil Menon selected by NASA

AnotherAmerican astronaut of Indian origin is heading towards space. NASA has selectedDr. Anil Menonfor the prestigious International Space Station (ISS) mission . With this, Menon will create history as the second Indo-American to enter the ISS after Sunita Williams. According to NASA, Anil Menon will serve as a flight engineer on the ISS in the 'Expedition 75' mission, which will begin in June 2026. The spacecraft he will travel on is 'Roscosmos Soyuz MS-29'. He is also participating in this experiment along with Russians Pyotr Dubrov and Anna Kikina.

Eight months of scientific research

The three astronauts will spend about eight months on the ISS focusing on scientific research. NASA will launch the space mission from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan. Anil Menon was born in the United States. His father, Shankaran Menon, is from India and his mother, Lisa Samolenko, is from Ukraine. He has a degree in neurobiology from Harvard University and a master's degree in mechanical engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He received further training in aerospace medicine and emergency medicine from Stanford University.

Starting as a surgeon at NASA and rising to become an astronaut

Anil Menon, who started working at NASA as a flight surgeon in 2014, was selected for the NASA astronaut corps in 2021. After three years of training, he was officially recognized as an astronaut in 2024.
