Bobbili Veena has been selected under the One District One Product (ODOP) award. While products from 7 districts of the state were selected for the ODOP award,the selection of a model Veena from Bobbili has become a matter of pride for the district . DistrictCollectorDr. BR Ambedkar went to Delhi to receive this award. The Collector will receive the ODOP award at a program to be held at Bharat Mandapam in Pragati Maidan, New Delhi on Monday. Bobbili Veena has an incomparable reputation in the country and abroad. The traditional 'Saraswati Veena' from Bobbili, widely known as Bobbili Veena, is famous for its distinctive tones.

Also, giving a small veena resembling the Sarvaswati veena as a gift and souvenir has been a tradition for years. Bobbili model veenas are being given as souvenirs not only in the country but also in international conferences and conventions. Postal stamps and coins have also been printed with Bobbili veena figures. Bobbili veenas are also being exported to other states. Gollapalli, near Bobbili town, is famous for making veenas. Veena making is considered a rare handicraft. About 300 families in this village have been engaged in making veenas for their livelihood for more than 100 years. Although veenas are also being made in Wadada, Badangi mandal, they are also considered Bobbili veenas. The wood used for making these is jackfruit and sampangi.
