India Post: New policy for UPI payments at post offices from August

Postal services in India have been directly connected to people's lives for decades. With the changing times and even public sector undertakings using technology, the Department of Posts (India Post) is taking a new step. It is ending the cash payment system in post offices across the country and paving the way for UPI-based digital payments. The Department of Posts is preparing to introduce UPI (Unified Payment Interface)-based payments in all post offices in India by August 2025. With this modern change, consumers can easily and securely make payments for postal services through QR codes. The current technological system in post offices is not connected to UPI.

To overcome this problem, the Postal Department is upgrading its Information Technology (IT) system under the name 'IT 2.0'. Through this new technology, a unique 'Dynamic QR Code' will be generated for each transaction. Users can scan this code with their smartphones and complete the payments without any hassle. Before implementing this new system, a pilot project was successfully conducted in Mysore and Bagalkot Head Post Offices in Karnataka as well as in several small offices. As part of this experiment,QR code paymentswere successfully tested for booking mail products. Based on these results, this facility will be made available in all post offices across the country in the coming days.

The chances of fraud are very low.

The postal department had previously tried to promote digital payments using static QR codes. However, the effort was abandoned due to technical issues and a high number of complaints from customers. Learning from past experiences, the department has now opted for a more secure and reliable dynamic QR code approach. For every transactionGenerate new codeThis initiative will greatly benefit the millions of people who visit post offices every day, especially those in rural areas. In addition to postage and parcel services, people can also easily pay for savings scheme deposits digitally. Analysts believe that this step will be a milestone in achieving the goal of 'Cashless India' promoted by the central government.
