Nellimarla, (Vizianagaram District): Nellimarla Nagar Panchayat Commissioner A. Taraknath was caught by the ACB on Tuesday. Hewas caught by the ACB officials while accepting a bribe of Rs. 15,000 from a person residing in Padmasali Street in the town forplan approval for the construction of a house in his room in the municipal office . The details provided by ACB DSP Ramya are as follows. Buridi Mahesh, who lives in Padmasali Street under theNellimarla Nagar Panchayat,is constructing a house in the same street. He recently applied for plan approval for the said house.

The commissioner disagreed.

However, Nagara Panchayat Commissioner Tarakanath demanded a bribe of Rs. 20,000 from Mahesh for the approval of the plan. He asked for Rs. 15,000 in cash and a divan cot bed for the remaining Rs. 5,000. Mahesh insisted that he had paid the required fee for the plan and could not give a bribe. However, the Commissioner did not agree. With this, Mahesh approached the ACB officials. On their instructions, Mahesh went to the Commissioner's Chamber in the Nagara Panchayat office at 11 am on Tuesday and handed over Rs. 15,000. While taking the bribe, the staff under the leadership of ACB DSP RamyacaughtCommissioner Tarakanath red-handed.

Many accusations

The DSP said that a case has been registered and the accused will be produced in court on Wednesday. Nagar Panchayat Commissioner Taraknath(Tarakanath)There have been many allegations against the commissioner since the beginning. There has been a lot of criticism that he went to every building under construction in the town and demanded bribes. The same matter has been mentioned by the members in the last three municipal council meetings. On one occasion, he was directly told about it in the meetings with the victims. However, there has been no change in the commissioner's attitude. If everything goes well, he will retire by the end of this month. Meanwhile, his arrest by ACB officials has become a topic of discussion in the town.
